Troubleshootin
The Model 4821/4820 has been designed to prevent many common installation errors. Error
messages that display on the touchpad LCD or download software screens help identify the
location of the problem.
8.1 Error Messages
Table 8-1 below describes system error messages that could display on the LCD and, when
applicable, suggests solutions.
Table 8-1: System Error Message:
Message Possible Cause / What to Do
4815 Trouble System is not communicating with a 4815. Check SBUS connection.
4824 Trouble System is not communicating with a 4824. Check SBUS connection.
4825 Trouble System is not communicating with a 4825. Check SBUS connection.
4880 Trouble System is not communicating with a 4880. Check SBUS connection.
Account Trouble A reporting account selected as Must Report was unable to report to.
Auxiliary Power Trouble Voltage on +12V (auxiliary power) terminal is lower than 12VDC.
Battery Trouble Battery voltage is less than 10.2 VDC.
Check battery voltage. When disconnected from the system, voltage
should be greater than 12 VDC.
Remove battery and measure charging voltage across battery leads.
Should measure greater than 13 VDC. (Range is 10.0 to 13.8.)
Dialer Failed Dialer was not able to communicate within the specified number of
attempts.
Flash Checksum Error Model 4821/4820 self-diagnostics has encountered a system problem.
System flash memory options may have become corrupted. Attempt to
download the panel (or download again if you have just performed a
download).
Keybus Trouble SBUS communication problem. Message displays if touchpads have
power and ground connection, but data lines are reversed or missing.
No AC Power Two possible causes for this message:
1. AC is less than 102V. Check outlet.
2. Transformer may be bad. Measure secondary output for
17-20 VAC.
Phone Line 1 or 2 Trouble Check phone line for voltage greater than 6 VDC.
Printer Offline Check printer connection to 4824.
Check power to the printer.
